Join us on the Caribbean coast to witness endangered sea turtles come ashore and lay their eggs under the stars. Our tours are eco-friendly, educational, and safe for both visitors and turtles.
Turtle Nesting Season & Species
The turtle nesting season in Costa Rica runs from March through late October. On the beach in front of Barra de Parismina, we see:
- Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) – March to June
- Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) – June to October
- Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) – mostly June to October
Occasionally, Loggerhead Turtles also nest here.
During your tour, you’ll learn about each species, their unique biology, and the threats they face, from habitat loss to pollution and fishing bycatch.

What to Expect on a Turtle Tour
Our Parismina turtle tours start with an introduction to sea turtle biology, conservation challenges, and how humans can make a difference. Then, with your guide, you’ll walk along the beach at night in search of a nesting female.
If you are lucky, you may witness a turtle laying her eggs—always from a safe distance to ensure the animals are not stressed. Turtle appearances are guided by nature—no need for a full moon, and turtles may nest even in the rain. The longer you stay, the higher your chances of seeing these incredible creatures.

Why Sea Turtle Conservation Matters
All seven sea turtle species worldwide are endangered. Threats include:
- Hunting for eggs, meat, and shells
- Coastal development and erosion
- Light pollution disorienting hatchlings
- Bycatch in fishing
- Plastic and marine pollution
Protecting turtles is vital for the health of oceans, beaches, and local ecosystems. Our tours are designed to educate visitors about conservation while keeping turtles safe.
Community-Based Conservation
In the village of Parismina, we are proud to host a community-run sea turtle conservation organization.
Founded in 2001 by local residents—including Jerry, our co-founder and current president—it is unique because it is fully managed by the community. Few turtle conservation projects in Costa Rica are 100% local-led.
Visitors can stay as a volunteer, helping protect nesting turtles and learning more about sea turtle conservation Costa Rica while living with a host family in the community.
