🌱 About Us
Hola! We are Mag and Jerry, founders of Eco Farm La Rana Roja in Barra de Parismina, Costa Rica.
We are passionate educators with years of experience working with children and families. Our project was created in January 2023, a deep hope for a better future — one where people reconnect with nature and understand how to protect it. Outside of our project we also lead educational trips around the world and bring the global prespective into Eco Farm La Rana Roja and all we do.
Through this family eco camp experience in Costa Rica, we share our knowledge of tropical ecosystems, wildlife, and sustainable living in a hands-on, engaging way.

📍 Location – Barra de Parismina, Costa Rica
Our family eco camp in Costa Rica takes place in Barra de Parismina, a small Caribbean village of around 500 people. We are located in the northern part of Caribbean coast. Located just 6 km from Tortuguero National Park, one of Costa Rica’s most important wildlife ares. We are a relaxed place, the only access is by boat (10min), with couple of small shops (‘pulperias’) and couple of small restaurants (‘sodas’). We have only couple of cars in the village, people mostly walk and our paths are sandy paths. We are excited to share our community way of life with you during this program! You will feel here the Pura Vida vibe that Costa Rica is known for!

🌿 FAQs
1. What is the price for the experience?
Please fill out the form so we can understand your family size, accommodation preferences, and any additional services. We will then send you personalized pricing.
2. Is the camp safe for children? Are there andy dangerous animals we should be worried about?
Yes — safety is our top priority.
We host small groups, and all activities are guided and adapted to children’s ages. We are trained in first aid and have extensive experience working with families.
Costa Rica is home to incredible biodiversity (5-6% of world’s biodiversity!), including animals like snakes and insects. However, with our guidance and supervision, families can feel safe and confident in nature. One of the things you’ll learn is that most wildlife avoids humans when treated with respect.
3. What ages is the camp suitable for?
Our program is designed for children aged 5-17, but we adjust activities based on each group to make sure everyone can participate and enjoy the experience.
4. Do parents need to participate in all activities?
Yes — this is a family experience.
We expect at least one parent to be present during activities. This supports both safety and the bonding experience.
5. What kind of accommodation is provided
We offer different kind of accommodation. We work with different locally owned businesses, all of them are selected because of comfort, safety and proximity to our activities. We also offer an option of a stay at a homestay for families who want to immerse in the local culture.
6. Is transportation included?
Transport to/from San José is not included, but we can arrange it.
Boat transport from Caño Blanco is included. We can also help organize shuttles, rental cars, or public transport guidance.
7. Can we use phones during the camp?
We strongly encourage families to take this opportunity to disconnect and be present.
There will be plenty of engaging activities, and this is a rare chance to focus on nature and connection without distractions. (Nothing will be taken away — just encouraged🙂)
8. Do we need travel insurance?
Yes, all participants need to have travel (health and emergency) insurance. There is a clinic in the village and in case of any emergency we will assist arranging logistics to reach a hospital if necessary.
9. What about insects, weather, and jungle conditions?
As part of a tropical environment, you can expect insects and warm, humid weather. Also, rain, we are close to the beach, the temperature doesn’t drop below below 90 F. It might rain, pack your rain coat, it will be fun, the rain is not cold 🙂 That’s why where we are located is green all year round, rain is water and water is life. We guide you on how to prepare (upon confirmation you will receive a packing list), and all activities are planned with comfort and safety in mind.
10. Will we see wildlife?
YES!! One of the reasons we started our project is because of the wildlife! We see wildlife. Some of the animals you can expect to see are sloths, monkeys, frogs, a lot of different birds, iguanas, crocodiles, maybe turtles and who knows what else decides to show themselves to us. You will be with two passionate naturalist guides who will also share a LOT of info about those animals. One of the objectives of our eco farm is to create a habitat that wild animals enjoy and they come to eat and hang out at the farm because of that.
11. What makes this camp different from other family trips?
This is a small-group, meaningful family eco experience in Costa Rica, focused on nature, education, and connection — not mass tourism. Hopefully we will infect you with our love for nature.
12. Is this suitable if we’ve never done something like this before?
Absolutely. Many families join us with little or no prior experience in eco travel—we guide you every step of the way.
13. How flexible is the itinerary?
We follow a general structure but adapt based on weather and the group.
14. Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?
Yes—please let us know in advance (there is space in the form to let us know) and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
15. How do we book / what are the next steps?
After submitting the form, we’ll contact you with availability and personalized details and prices for your family. To confirm and assure the limited sports we will require a deposit. We will guide you through the process step by step.
16. What if my child doesn’t enjoy certain activities?
We keep our groups small and flexible, so we can adapt activities to match different energy levels and interests although there are certain activities that won’t be changed mainly because of the focus of the experience. We are always open to look for solutions.
